Демоверсия текущего контроля по разделу “Can you make anyeffective academic presentations?”Task 1.C / C, A, D, B, E / D / C / C, E, D, A, BTask 6.Well, first of all, I’d like to thank the organizers for inviting me here today andfor doing so much to organize this great conference.
It’s been a great privilege for me tobe a part of this academic event. It’s an honour to have the opportunity to address such a distinguished gatheringof professional experts in the field of …2. Демоверсия текущего контроля по разделу “Could you really take partin a Q&A session?”Task 1.B/C/B/D/BTask 3.Asking the speaker a question: I’d like to express our appreciation of yourinteresting talk. Could I ask you a couple of questions, please? / I’d like to thank youfor… Could you give us some more details about…? / Thank you for such a thoughtprovoking presentation. You made an interesting point about… I’m sure all thecolleagues would like to hear what you think about…Paraphrasing the question: What I said was… / I was merely pointing out thefact… / What I meant was … / Perhaps it would be more accurate to say…Thanking the academic audience for their questions: Thank you for yourquestion / That’s a very good question / I’m happy you asked that question / Thank you. That’s a very interesting question.Clarifying the questions: So, if I understand your question, you’d like toknow… Am I right? / So, your point is about… / Could I just check if I understand whatyou’ve said? Демоверсия текущего контроля по разделу “How to make a successfulsmall talk in academic settings?”Task 1.C/A/B/C/CTask 3.Unfortunately, it’s absolutely impossible to consider this small talk successfulbecause both interlocutors have made so many communication and socio-cultural errorsduring small talk in academic settings. Firstly, the man asked her colleague three tabooquestions. These questions concerned her private life, religion and also politics.Secondly, they haven’t even introduced themselves and told about their professionalinterests, etc.
While reading this dialogue, it seemed to me that the woman had no desireto make small talk with anybody. Moreover, she has managed to demonstrate a totallack of knowledge about national holidays in her country. This dialogue looks like aninterview.Task 4.This photo represents the situation of intercultural academic communication atone of the international scholarly conferences between two members of differentcultural and academic communities. A man on the left is probably a member of theChinese culture. At the same time, the second man may be a representative of theAmerican culture, for example. As far as the sociocultural failures given in this photo are concerned, it is possibleto assume that this small talk is not going to be absolutely successful, as the mainsociocultural failure lies in the fact that body language used by one person is notappropriate for another one.
This uncomfortable situation may be linked to certaincultural differences, in particular, to distinction in non-verbal communication, acceptedin different cultural and academic communities.98In order to prevent the emergence of such failures it is necessary to keep thepeculiarities of communicative non-verbal behavior accepted in your interlocutor’sculture in mind and try not to plunge him or her into cultural shock.Task 6.If somebody asked me a personal question that I had no desire to response at oneof the international scholarly conferences during coffee break, I would try to do all mybest to change the subject or say that I have to leave my interlocutor for a while due tosome reasons, etc.Task 7.Oh, I’m so delighted to make your acquaintance. I’ve been looking forward tomeeting you.
Is this your first time here?Task 8.I’m afraid, I’d prefer not to say anything about… / It’s difficult to gave anopinion right now / I’d rather not commit myself on…, if you don’t mind.Task 9.Well, that’s very surprising / I must say… comes as a total surprise / It gives megreat pleasure to hear…Task 10.Thank you very much, but… / Well, that’s very kind of you, but… / I’m afraidI’ve already promised to… But thank you very much all the same.99ПРИЛОЖЕНИЕ №7Критерии и шкалы оценивания коммуникативной готовности студентов кмежкультурной коммуникации в научно-образовательной средеШКАЛА оценивания12КРИТЕРИИ3«Неудов«Неудов4оценивания«Удовлетволетворительлетвори«Хорошо»рительно»но»тельно»Отсутствует.
