Риас представляет собой эстуарий92,погрузившийся в воду при одновременномомоложении рельефа суши. Такие гаванидостаточно глубоки, хотя они могут иметьсклонность к заиливанию.Для фиордов характерны большая длина всравнении с шириной, крутые берега,пороги у входа в море и большие глубины.Общей характеристикой всех фиордовявляется трудный доступ к ним с суши. Онирасположены в малонаселенныхпериферийных районах Норвегии,Гренландии.
