The reporting verb matches the function of theimperative (asking, telling, advising, ordering, etc). The verbs most commonly used to introduce indirectorders and requests are: to tell, to order, to command, to instruct, to advise, to offer, to warn, to remind,to forbid, to allow/perm it, to demand, etc. Requests are usually introduced by the verb to ask.
