" What is to be a good neighbour"
LESSON PLAN
AIM: To encourage students to discuss ( in English) what is to be a good neighbour.

PRE - READING ACTIVITY.
Write this newspaper report on the board .
| TRAGIC DISCOVERY The body of Mrs.Bridget Delaney, aged 88, was discovered when police broke into her home on Monday night. The police were called after neighbour noticed she had not taken in her milk or newspapers for over a week. It appears that Mrs.Delaney, who lived alone, had fallen downstairs and been unable to attract the attention of her neighbours. Mrs. Delaney had one daughter, who is married and lives in Australia. |
Answer the following questions:

WHILE - READING ACTIVITY
Read the poem aloud to the class.
A SAD SONG ABOUT GREENWICH VILLAGE
She lives in a garret She sweeps her must longing
Up a haunted stair, As dawn steales near.
And even when she`s frightened And even when she`s crying
There`s nobody to care There`s nobody to tell.
She cooks so small a dinner I haven`t seen my neighbour
She dines on the smell, Since a long time ago

Let the class see a copy of the poem (write it on the board)
Find four pictures (from newspapers, magazines, books) of four women - an least one should be of a young woman and one an old. Ask the students to work in pairs. They should decide which picture could be the photo of the woman in the poem. They will need to provide evidence from the poem - is she old or young? (eg. she`s awake early in the morning - "dawn steals near" - does this mean she is old? She lives at the top of the house - "in a garret" - is she then young as an old woman wouldn`t manage the stairs?
Lead into discussion about the life of the person in the poem.
You could also do some language work - eg. make a list of unusual combinations (haunted stair, dines on the smell, dawn steals near).
POST- READING ACTIVITIES.

Students could write a short biography of the woman. What is her name? Her age? Does she have a family living somewhere else? What does she do all day? etc.
-
Role Play - one person could be the "I" in the poem, the other the woman. The meet on the stairs one day. The neighbour wants to be friendly and invites the lonely person for afternoon tea.

Игровые приемы обучения лексике по учебнику “THE ENGLISH PAGE”.
Каждый раздел учебника начинается с изучения нового вокабуляра. Обычно это значит, что учащиеся будут учить вокабуляр наизусть как домашнее задание. Этот способ является традиционным для наших школ. Но несмотря на это, хочется обсудить и другие пути предъявления нового вокабуляра. многим учителям известно, что иногда никакая система (прописывание вокабуляра на доске, чтение вслух, хором, упражнения) не помогают учащимся запомнить лексику.
На данном этапе учителя ведут активный поиск нетрадиционных форм обучения и запоминания вокабуляра. Экспериментируются новые способы обучения. Познакомиться с этими способами нам поможет учебник “THE ENGLISH PAGE”.
Учебники включают в себя огромное количество материала по обучению английскому языку на различных этапах. В данном случае особый интерес для нас представляет обучение лексике с использованием игровых ситуаций.
Главным образом на уроках предлагается использование картинок из журналов, книг, различные карточки, какие-то вещи ( книги, яблоко, ручка, пенал и т.д.), а также жесты и мимику. Цель всех упражнений - расширить вокабуляр учащихся. А сейчас попытаемся подробнее рассмотреть игры, предлагаемые учебником “THE ENGLISH PAGE”.
Итак, первая книга “Brainstorm round a word”. Ее цель повторить и расширить лексический запас. Учитель предлагает классу слово по теме, а учащиеся должны назвать слова, ассоциирующиеся с ним.
Возьмем тему “Одежда” .

Возможно множество вариантов этого игрового упражнения. Учащиеся называют уже знакомые слова, а затем постепенно учитель вводит новые ЛЕ. Затем можно стереть с доски, за исключением центрального слова. Классу предлагается разделиться на 2 группы, вспомнить и записать как можно больше слов.
Следующая предлагаемая игра похожа на предыдущую, но немного сложнее. Эта игра по теме “Bedroom”. Цель: повторить материал и ознакомиться с новыми словами по данной теме. Условия игры такие же как и у предыдущей.
