It is resulted in a comprehensive understanding of the right to freedom of expression in theunity of its active and passive parts, as well as the resolution of the problem of journalists’ legalstatus by equalizing the rights of various categories of journalists to protection and ensuring theirrespective guarantees.The thesis analyses the means and methods of journalists’ protection in International Humanitarian Law, including the features of journalists’ legal protection in international and noninternational armed conflicts. The assessment of International Humanitarian Law efficiency in journalists’ protection were made, the efforts of international organizations to ensure the journalists’safety and the resolution of the problem of impunity for crimes against journalists were analyzed.Alternative forms of justice in the sphere of ensuring the protection of journalists' rights and compensation for damage to journalist – victims of armed conflicts are considered.The study has proposed and justified a variety of ways to solve the issues in question, includingthe expediency of establishment the position of the UN Secretary-General Special Representative for theJournalists’ Safety, foundation the International Media Committee, formation of Compensation Funds(national and international) and Truth Commissions in the armed conflicts territory.31.
