Lomonosov Moscow State University is the oldest and largest university in Russia. Itwas founded in 1755. The university was renamed in honor of its founder, MikhailLomonosov, in 1940.Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov was a Russian polymath, scientist and writer, whomade important contributions to literature, education, and science. His spheres of sciencewere natural science, chemistry, physics, mineralogy, history,art, philology, opticaldevices and others.

Lomonosov was also a poet and influenced the formation of themodern Russian literary language.The University also claims to have the tallest educational building in the world. Itscurrent rector is Viktor Antonovich Sadovnichiy. In the 18th century, the university hadthree departments: philosophy, medicine, and law. Now the university has 39 facultiesand 15 research centers.It is the alma mater of many famous writers such as Anton Chekhov and Ivan Turgenev,politicians such as Mikhail Gorbachev or Mikhail Suslov, as well as renownedmathematicians and physicists such as Boris Demidovich, Vladimir Arnold, and AndreyKolmogorov.As for me, I study at the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University. It is one of thelargest faculties of Moscow State University.

This faculty came into existence in 1933.The faculty provides students a traditional university’s education. Students study 4 yearsand get the bachelor's degree, or study 6 years and get the master’s degree. Every year wehad two terms, at the end of which we take examinations. The study is very interestingand absorbing here.But also the faculty gives students an opportunity to meet interesting people, to attendlectures of greatest scientists and professors, to take part in scientific projects. Our facultyhas his own traditions and one of them is the physicist’s day. It is an annual holiday, andevery student waits for it.

This holiday you can take part in different funny competitions,win prizes, watch the concert or just simply get fun with your friends all day long..
