Angela: Well, I was reading an article about publishing companies and I saw the advertisement for a sales representative in a new regional office. So I phoned the HR manager to ask some questions about the role. And I thought the job sounded perfect.
Interviewer: What do you think about working at a new regional office? It’s exciting, but there are lots of challenges when a company expands.
Angela: Yes, I agree with you up to a point, but I think the benefits of an additional regional office outweigh any minor challenges. I think it’s very exciting, and I’d like to be part of that.
Interviewer: Good. I see from your CV that you have about six months experience of working in sales. Some people might say that isn’t a lot of work experience.
Angela: Perhaps you’re right, but I was also an intern in sales when I was at university. Then, when I started my current job, I went on a four-week training course. After that, I worked with one of the senior sales managers for a month, and I learned a lot.
Interviewer: OK, so tell me … What are your strengths and weaknesses?
Angela: That’s an interesting question. I really enjoy working with people, and I think you have to be good with people to work in sales. I’m quite good at managing my work, too.
Interviewer: So, how are your communication skills?
Angela: Good. I like meeting new clients. People say I’m good on the telephone, too. I don’t enjoy writing long emails, though. I prefer phoning someone and talking.
Interviewer: Let’s go back to weaknesses. Do you have any weaknesses you’d like to work on?
Angela: I’m not very good at writing reports, but I’m going on a training course next week. I think that will help.
Interviewer: OK. Where do you see yourself in the future?
Angela: Well, I hope to gain business experience and develop professionally over the next few years. In five years’ time, I intend to be in my first management position.
Interviewer: I see. Now, do you have any questions you’d like to ask?
