SCOPEThe present Galileo Signal In Space Interface Control Document (SIS ICD)Draft 0 contains the publicly available information on the Galileo Signal InSpace. The present document is subject to evolution, and the informationcontained in it may change. It is recommended that a reconfigurable approach for the Galileo receivers beadopted by the manufacturers, in order to easily adapt the receivers' architectureto the possible changes which might occur in the future.©, 2006, European Space Agency / Galileo Joint UndertakingDocument subject to terms of use and disclaimers p. 2-4.Reference:Issue:Revision:Date:GAL OS SIS ICD/D.0Draft023/05/2006Page132. INTRODUCTIONGalileo is the European global navigation satellite system, providing a highly accurate, guaranteed global positioning service under civilian control.
It is inter-operable with GPS andGLONASS, the two other global satellite navigation systems. The fully deployed Galileo system consists of 30 satellites (27 operational + 3 spares),positioned in three circular Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) planes at a nominal average orbitsemi-major axis of 29601.297 Km, and at an inclination of the orbital planes of 56 degreeswith reference to the equatorial plane. Once this is achieved, the Galileo navigation signalsprovide a good coverage even at latitudes up to 75 degrees north and 75 degrees south.Galileo provides enhanced distress localisation and call features for the provision of a Searchand Rescue service interoperable with the COSPAS-SARSAT system. This Galileo Signal-In-Space Interface Control Document is intended for use by the Galileouser community. It specifies the interface between the Galileo Space Segment, and the GalileoUser Segment.Figure 1 specifies the RF air interface between the space and user segment.
Threeindependently usable signals are permanently transmitted by all Galileo satellites: E5, E6 andE1. The E5 link is further sub-divided into two RF links denoted E5a and E5b.364HGALILEO SPACE SEGMENT (SS)GALILEO SPACEVEHICLE (SV)E5E5aE6E5bE6E1E1GALILEO USERSEGMENT (US)Figure 1: Space Vehicle / Navigation User InterfaceThis document describes the signals related to the open service of Galileo with the intention tofoster its standardization for mass-market development.©, 2006, European Space Agency / Galileo Joint UndertakingDocument subject to terms of use and disclaimers p. 2-4.Reference:Issue:Revision:Date:GAL OS SIS ICD/D.0Draft023/05/2006Page143.
