The three reunited in 1994 to record backing tapes forvocal tracks Mercury recorded on his deathbed. The resulting album, Made in Heaven, wasreleased in 1995 to mixed reviews and strong sales, particularly in Europe. Crown Jewels, a box setrepackaging their first eight LPs, followed in 1998. Archival live recordings, DVDs, andcompilations kept appearing through the new millennium. The Queen name was revived in 2005,but this time with "+ Paul Rodgers" appended to it. Rodgers, the former lead singerof Free and Bad Company, joined Brian May and Roger Taylor (John Deacon remained retired)for several live shows, one of which was documented on 2005's Return of the Champions, adouble-disc release issued by the Hollywood label.

International touring continued, as did a newstudio album featuring Rodgers' vocals. Released under the "Queen + Paul Rodgers" tag, TheCosmos Rocks appeared in September 2008, followed by an American release one month later.Reception was decidedly mixed.

Rodgers departed from Queen in 2009 and in his wake came anew compilation called Absolute Greatest. TV appearances followed over the next two years,including a spot on the 2009 American Idol finale where they performed with Adam Lambert, andthen in 2010 Queen wound up leaving their home of EMI for Island, which brought all of thegroup's recordings to Universal Records. A new round of reissues followed in 2011, along with aperformance with Lambert at the MTV Europe Music Awards, and the vocalist soon became afixture with the band, as Queen performed several big concerts and television performances in2012 and 2013, followed by a full tour in 2014. Also that year, Queen released anothercompilation, Queen Forever, which was anchored by reworked versions of three old songs,including a solo number by Mercury where he duetted with Michael Jackson.

In June 2011 Don performed for an audience of 100,000 at theGlastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts.Don continues to tour North America and the rest of the world – including UK/Europe in 2012,Australia in 2013 and two UK and Europe tours in one year in 201536.NickelbackFew bands did more than Nickelback to establish the force ofslick, commercially minded post-grunge in the 2000s. Led byvocalist Chad Kroeger, the band initially emerged in the late'90s as Canada's answer to Creed, prizing a blend of gruffvocals and distorted (yet radio-friendly) guitars. After ahandful of singles failed to gain much traction in Canada, "How You Remind Me" caught hold in2001, eventually topping the charts in several countries while gathering four Grammy nominationsand four Juno Awards.

Creed imploded several years later, but Nickelback's popularity only grewas the decade progressed, effectively eclipsing those acts that had once informed the band's sound.Chad Kroeger honed his frontman skills by performing with cover bands in Hanna, a smallCanadian town 215 kilometers northeast of Calgary. After growing tired of playing other people'ssongs, he borrowed money from his stepfather and relocated to Vancouver, where he recorded hisfirst batch of original material. Mike Kroeger, Chad's bass-playing sibling, decided to join hisbrother's band, as did fellow Vancouver transplants Ryan Peake (a guitarist who had befriendedthe Kroeger in middle school) and Ryan Vikedal (a drummer from Peake's hometown of Brooks,Alberta).

Nickelback officially took shape in 1996 and quickly set to work, releasing two albums –the Hesher EP and full-length album Curb – before the year was up. By 1998, the bandmates weremanagingthemselves; Chad courtedradiostations,brother Mike handleddistribution, Vikedal booked shows, and Peake maintained the band's website.January 2000 saw the arrival of The State, Nickelback's second independent release. Issuedat a time in which Canadian content requirements were increased (and, accordingly, local radio3536http://www.ralphmctell.co.uk/http://www.don-mclean.com/273stations had begun to desperately seek out homegrown product), the album fared very well on indiecharts.

Nickelback toured ceaselessly in support of The State, logging approximately 200 showswhile playing alongside other groups of the burgeoning post-grunge genre. Nickelback'scommercial appeal wasn't lost on the record industry, either, and The State's distribution rightswere quickly snapped up by Roadrunner Records in the U.S. and EMI in Canada. As the bandcontinued to tour, Kroeger kept writing new songs, many of which were honed in front of liveaudiences. Much of that material found its way onto Silver Side Up, which was produced by RickParashar (who came to prominence in the early '90s by helming Pearl Jam's Ten, Alice inChains' Sap, and Blind Melon's self-titled debut) and recorded at Green House, the sameVancouver studio used during The State's creation.

The combination of Nickelback's growingpopularity and Kroeger's focused songwriting propelled Silver Side Up onto album charts acrossthe world, spearheaded by the hit single "How You Remind Me." Kroeger capitalized on thatexposure by producing another Vancouver-based band, Default, and collaboratingwith Saliva's Josey Scott for the Spider-Man soundtrack. The Long Road then arrived in 2003,featuring an increasingly polished sound and another high-charting single, "Someday." While somelisteners criticized the apparent similarities between "Someday" and "How You Remind Me," TheLong Road had little trouble maintaining Nickelback's wide audience, eventually selling over fivemillion copies worldwide.In February 2005, Nickelback announced the departure of Vikedal.

He was soon replacedby 3 Doors Down's former drummer, Daniel Adair, and Nickelback returned to Kroeger's studio inVancouver to begin work on another album. ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Pantera's DimebagDarrell (who unfortunately died before the album's release) were guests on the chart-topping Allthe Right Reasons, which arrived in October 2005. The album proved to be Nickelback's mostpopular effort to date, remaining in the Billboard Top 30 for over two years and selling over sevenmillion copies in the U.S. alone.

It also spawned five Top 20 singles, a feat that attracted theattention of veteran producer (and demonstrated hit-maker) Mutt Lange. Nickelback traveledto Lange's home in Switzerland to share songwriting ideas; impressed with the results, they alsoenlisted him to helm their next album. Recorded in a converted Vancouver barn, DarkHorse marked the band's sixth studio album upon its release in November 2008. Nickelback'sseventh studio album arrived nearly three years after the multi-platinum-selling Dark Horse. The11-track Here and Now, which was preceded by the singles "Bottoms Up" and "When We StandTogether," hit the streets on November 21, 2011.The following year Kroeger began working on fellow Canadian rock star Avril Lavigne'seponymous fifth album. Shortly after their working partnership began, they began dating andeventually married in early 2013.

The band put together their first compilation, The Best ofNickelback, Vol. 1, which appeared in November of 2013; the 19-track collection contained nonew songs. In 2014 the band's contract with Roadrunner expired and they decided not to renew,signing instead with Universal Republic for their eighth album, No Fixed Address.

The albumincluded a number of departures from Nickelback's usual fare, including radio-friendly "What AreYou Waiting For?," the politicized "Edge of a Revolution," and "Got Me Runnin' 'Round," which37featured a horn section and rapper Flo Rida.
