In the mid-1990s the laser cooperated with the computer, but the laser still only reads, writes, and memorizes for the computer. Experts point out that in the supercomputers sometimes a lot of information and some pieces of it try to get to the same place at the same time. As a result, bottlenecks form. These are like miniature traffic jams, where the cars are replaced by bits of data. The laser could solvethis problem by using light instead of electricity to process the information. It means the technology of optical computer may appear.

Optical computers, also known as photonic computers, perform digital computations using photons. Light waves produced by lasers or incoherent sources are used as a primary means for carrying out numerical calculations, reasoning, artificial intelligence, data processing, data storage and data communications for computing.
