Water Water Energetic Reactor VVER-1500
Hello. I'm …. Today I will tell you about VVER- Water Water Energetic Reactor.
Main Design Features
Plants containing VVER reactors use horizontal steam generators with thick walled steam generator tubes made of stainless steel. These type reactors utilize hexagonal fuel assemblies with a fuel rod cladding of zirconium-niobium alloy. VVER reactor vessels lack penetrations in the reactor lower head, increasing their integrity in critical situations.

VVER 1500
OKB Gidropress designed Pressurized Water Reactor called VVERs, with an electric output of 1560MWe (one thousand 5 hundred sixty mega watt). The new design complies with modern safety regulation, codes and standards as well as with the Russian and Euroatom standards. Major design features include extensive use of passive safety systems, tolerance to human errors and design lifetime of 50-60 years.
Now I would like to tell you about fuel used in the reactor.
Fuel
VVERs utilize enriched sintered UO2 fuel pellets fitted into fuel rods made from zirconium-alloy cladding. These fuel rods are bundled together into hexagonal-shaped fuel assemblies having an enrichment of up to 5 wt% U235 (five weight percent uranium thirty five).
Interesting facts
Over 60 VVER units have been constructed by Russian companies across the globe since the mid-1960s.The design lifetime of older VVER models were 30 years, but through continuous improvements in material and operational practices, the new generation of advanced reactor models can serve for 50 or 60 years.
